ProbeHaven follows the same structured path for every problem it investigates. Each stage exists to remove enthusiasm and assumption from the decision, and replace it with evidence.
Method
How We Research
-
01
Problem investigation
Defining the problem precisely — who experiences it, when, and what it currently costs — before any solution is considered.
-
02
Evidence gathering
Reviewing documentation, existing tooling and workflows for concrete evidence that the problem is real and recurring.
-
03
Practitioner research
Structured conversations with people who experience the problem directly, in their own operating context.
-
04
Commercial testing
Assessing whether a solution to the problem would be commercially viable to build and sustain.
-
05
Operational testing
Assessing whether a solution could realistically operate within the systems and constraints practitioners already work within.
-
06
Decision
A clear, evidence-based call on whether the problem warrants further investment — including a decision not to build.
Research Principles
What guides every investigation
- Evidence over enthusiasm A promising idea is not evidence. Conclusions follow what is observed, not what is hoped for.
- Problems before products No solution is defined until the problem is understood and evidenced on its own terms.
- Existing behaviour matters Current spending, workarounds, internal processes and operational consequences can tell us more than hypothetical interest.
- Uncertainty should remain visible Open questions and weak evidence are reported as such, not smoothed over.
- Not building is an acceptable outcome If the evidence doesn't support it, the research concludes without a product.
